What is dnd in telecalling?

DND in telecalling is the Do Not Disturb registry run under TRAI rules in India. A mobile user registers by sending START 0 to 1909 or calling 1909, after which unsolicited commercial calls and SMS to that number are prohibited. Calls to your own customers and to people who asked to be contacted are not covered, but must stop the moment the person asks.

How does a customer register for DND?

By sending an SMS reading START 0 to 1909 for full blocking, or START followed by category numbers to block only certain categories such as banking or real estate, or by calling 1909 from the mobile number. Registration takes effect within a few days and stays until the customer sends STOP. The customer can also complain to 1909 about a specific call or message, quoting the number and the time.

What may a telecaller still call?

Two kinds of number, whatever their DND status. First, existing customers, for calls about the product or service they already have: a renewal, a delivery, a service due, a payment. Second, people who gave consent, such as an enquiry made on a website form, a portal, an ad or a walk-in register. That consent should be recorded with its date and source, and it lapses if the person asks not to be called again.

What a telecaller may not do is call a number bought from a list broker, a scraped directory or a shared spreadsheet of unknown origin, if that number is on the registry. Bulk promotional calling to unknown numbers is the activity the registry exists to stop, and since 2018 commercial telemarketers are expected to send such traffic only through registered channels and headers.

How can a team check whether a number is on DND?

Operators and telemarketing platforms offer DND scrubbing against the national registry for bulk lists. For a small team calling its own enquiries the practical check is different: was this number given to us by the person, when, and where? A lead that arrived from a form, a portal, a camp or a walk-in carries its own consent; a number nobody can explain does not get called.

What happens if a telecaller breaks the rules?

Complaints go through the customer's operator to the calling number's operator. Repeated complaints lead to the calling number being disconnected, and a telemarketer's registration being suspended; for the business it means a burned mobile number and, in the worst case, all its numbers. For an individual caller the first sign is usually that the number stops connecting, because the operator and the customers' spam apps have both flagged it.

DND (Do Not Disturb) in Telecalling Software

Telecalling Software does not scrub lists against the national DND registry; it is built for calling your own enquiries and customers. What it gives a team is the record that keeps calling within the rules: every lead carries its source and the date it arrived, a Do not call stage drops a number out of every session and list, and every call and WhatsApp message is logged with its time, so "when did we last call this person and why" has an answer.

About the term.

Can I call my own customer if they are on DND?

Yes, about the product or service they have with you: a renewal, a delivery, a payment, a service due. Not for a new promotion unless they agreed to marketing calls, and not at all once they ask you to stop.

Can I call someone on DND who filled in an enquiry form?

Yes. An enquiry is consent to be called about that enquiry. Keep the form, portal or ad source and the date on the lead, and stop when they ask.

How do I put a number on my own Do not call list?

Give it a status such as Do not call that every list and session excludes, note who asked and when, and never delete the record; deleting it is how the number gets called again from a fresh import.

What is the difference between DND and a spam flag?

DND is the customer opting out through the regulator. A spam flag is other users or an app reporting the calling number. A team can be within DND rules and still get flagged for calling too many people who did not want the call.

Does DND apply to WhatsApp messages?

The registry covers calls and SMS on the mobile network. WhatsApp has its own rules: business messages need the customer's opt-in, templates on the API are approved by WhatsApp, and messaging people who never contacted you gets the number banned.

What are the allowed hours for telecalling in India?

Commercial calls are expected between 9 am and 9 pm; most teams stop by 8 pm because calls after that are answered less and complained about more. Calls to your own customers about a service issue are not restricted the same way but should follow the same courtesy.
