How to hire telecallers · for a first caller or a fifth

Every result on this search tells you where to post. None tells you how to choose.

How to hire telecallers, by Telecalling Software: seven steps, judged by ear.

How to hire telecallers, in one line: listen before you read, and test on a real list before you decide. A telecaller's work is heard, not seen, so the steps that predict a good hire are the phone screen and a paid trial day; the resume and the interview room come second. This page takes an owner hiring a first or a fifth caller through seven steps in order, with what to do and what to look for at each.

How to hire telecallers?

How to hire telecallers in seven steps: decide what the job is measured on, write a post that says so, collect candidates from more than one kind of channel, screen every one by phone, interview with a role-play, pay for a trial day on a real list, and review the first week against the measure. The phone screen and the trial day tell you more than any resume.

Telecaller hiring process: how to hire telecallers in seven steps

Hiring a telecaller tends to go wrong at the first step, before any candidate is seen: the owner has not decided what the seat is measured on. A post that asks for an energetic person with good communication attracts everyone and selects no one. Decide the measure first, whether that is connected conversations a day, demo visits booked a week or renewals collected a month, and every later step has something to test against. The post states it. The phone screen checks whether the candidate can be understood on an ordinary mobile line, which is the only way a customer will ever meet them. The interview adds a role-play. A paid trial day on a real list of thirty to fifty numbers shows the note-writing and the tone after a refusal, which no interview reveals. The first week then confirms or corrects the decision while it is still cheap to change.

Telecaller recruitment process in detail

  1. Define the job and the measure

Before any advert, write one sentence: this seat is judged on a named number. Connected conversations a day, demo visits booked a week, renewals collected a month. Choose one main measure, and make it something a call log can show.

What to look for. Your own answer. If you cannot finish the sentence, you are not ready to hire, because the candidate will be reviewed on a feeling.

  2. Write the post

Say what the calls are, where the list comes from, how many calls a normal day holds, the measure from step one, the languages needed, and how the pay is built. Leave out the adjectives about dynamic personalities.

What to look for. Replies that mention the list or the target. An applicant who read that far and still applied has selected themselves.

  3. Gather candidates from more than one channel

Post where callers look, ask your present staff who they know, tell a nearby institute, and put a notice where people walk past. The four kinds of channel are compared further down.

What to look for. Variety. You learn what good sounds like only by hearing different people.

  4. Screen every applicant by phone

Five minutes, on an ordinary mobile call, before anyone is invited in. Ask them to describe their last job or course in a minute, then ask one thing they did not expect.

What to look for. The four things listed in the phone screening section below.

  5. Interview with a role-play

Fifteen to twenty minutes with the candidates who passed the phone screen. Play a customer who says no once, and ask experienced callers for their dialled and connected figures from the last job.

What to look for. Questions before the pitch, and the tone in the sentence straight after your refusal. Numbers offered without hesitation.

  6. Pay for a trial day on a real list

Give each finalist thirty to fifty genuine enquiry numbers, half a page of call structure and somewhere to record each call. Pay the daily rate of the role, hired or not, and say in advance how the day will be judged.

What to look for. A note against every connected call, written without prompting. The voice late in the afternoon compared with the morning. Whether promised details were actually sent.

  7. Run the first week on purpose

Day one is the product, the list and the recording tool. From day two add one habit a day and sit beside the caller for a few calls. Review the numbers with them every evening for five days.

What to look for. Habits before results: calls written up, callbacks made on the promised day, and an afternoon pace close to the morning one.

Three of these steps have a page of their own. For step two, the telecaller job description is a template you can post as it stands. For step five, the telecalling interview questions give eight questions with what a strong answer contains. For step seven, telecaller skills lists the six habits worth teaching and the number each one moves.

02 · Where candidates come fromFour kinds of channel

Telecaller hiring sources: portals, referrals, institutes and walk-ins

Whichever channel you use, the post should name the pay structure. How a base and an incentive fit together, and why this site prints no figures, is on the telecaller salary in India page. If you are unsure which title to advertise, telecalling vs telesales sorts it by what the seat is measured on.

03 · The phone screenFive minutes

Telecaller phone screening: four things to hear in five minutes

A telecaller should be screened by phone because a customer will only ever hear them. Make the call yourself, from a mobile, without warning of the exact time.

  1. Did they pick up, or call back within the day? A caller who is hard to reach as a candidate is unlikely to be easier to reach as an employee.
  2. Could you follow every word on an ordinary mobile line, at the speed they naturally speak? That is the only way a customer will ever meet them.
  3. When asked something unexpected, did the voice stay level, and was the answer a sentence and not a ramble?
  4. Did they ask you anything: where the numbers come from, how many calls a day, what the timings are? Curiosity on this call predicts curiosity on a customer call.

Paid trial day example: how to hire telecallers on evidence

The name and the numbers are made up to show the shape of the funnel. Yours will differ.

Meenakshi runs a travel agency in Indore and needs two callers for holiday enquiries. Her post names the measure, quotes sent per day, and brings 40 applications in a week. She phones all 40. About 20 pick up or call back, and 10 of those are clear and steady on the line.

Six come in for a twenty-minute interview with a role-play. Four are invited to a paid trial day. Each gets 40 real enquiry numbers, half a page of call structure and the same instruction: write one line after every call.

By evening she has four call records to lay side by side. All four dialled the full list. Two wrote a note against every connected call and sent the promised itineraries on WhatsApp before leaving. She hires those two, pays all four for the day, and tells the other two the same evening. Nothing on anybody's resume would have separated them.

Telecaller hiring FAQ: how to hire telecallers

How to hire a telecaller?

Start by deciding the number the seat will be judged on, then write a post that states it along with the kind of calls and the pay structure. Collect applicants from more than one channel, phone every one for five minutes, interview the clear speakers with a role-play, and give the best few a paid trial day on a real list. Hire on the trial-day call log, not on the resume.

How to get a good telecaller?

Look for the three habits that show up in a trial, since none of them appear on a resume: speech a stranger can follow on a mobile line, a steady voice straight after a refusal, and a note written after every call without being reminded. Candidates referred by your current callers and applicants who ask where the list comes from are worth calling first. Then keep them with a fair measure and daily feedback.

What should be ready before a new telecaller starts?

Four things: a list of real numbers for at least the first week, a half-page call structure with the opening and common objections, a clear arrangement for the phone and SIM bill, and one place to record every call. Deciding the recording tool before day one matters most, because habits set in the first week stay. Our best telecaller app page covers what that tool should do from the caller's seat.

How do I decide the pay before hiring a telecaller?

Decide the structure before the amount: a fixed monthly base, and an incentive paid on the same measure the seat is judged on. Then check current listings for similar roles in your own city on the day you post, since any figure printed on a page like this would be out of date. State the base and what the incentive pays on in the post; our telecaller salary in India page explains the parts.

Where can I find telecallers to hire?

Four kinds of channel cover most hires: job portals and hiring apps for volume, referrals from your own staff for people who already know the work, local institutes and colleges for freshers with clear speech, and walk-ins from a notice at your premises for candidates who live close by. Use at least two at once. One channel alone tends to send one type of applicant.

Should I hire a fresher or an experienced telecaller?

Hire on the phone screen and trial day, not on years. An experienced caller brings habits, good or bad, and should be able to state dialled and connected numbers from the last job. A fresher with clear speech and a steady manner needs a week or two of coaching and often takes to your way of working faster. For a first hire with nobody to train them, some experience helps.

How many telecallers should I hire at first?

As many as your list can keep busy, and no more. Count the enquiries and callbacks you receive in a week and compare that with what one caller can work through in a day at your call length. If the list fills less than one seat, a part-time caller or your own time is the honest answer. If you can support two, hiring two together lets you compare them and keeps the calls going when one is absent.

How long does hiring a telecaller take?

For a local role it can be done inside a week if the steps run back to back: post on the first day, phone screens over the next two, interviews on the fourth and a paid trial day on the fifth. That is a plan, not a promise; it stretches when the post is vague and the wrong applicants have to be filtered out. The step worth not rushing is the trial day.

Why screen telecaller candidates by phone first?

Because the phone is where the job happens. A five-minute call shows what a customer would hear: pace, clarity, how the candidate handles an unexpected question, and whether they picked up or called back at all. It also saves both sides a wasted trip. Candidates who are hard to follow on the line rarely become easy to follow after hiring, however well they present in a room.

What is a paid trial day for a telecaller?

It is one working day in which a shortlisted candidate calls a short real list, usually thirty to fifty numbers, using your call structure, and is paid the daily rate for the role whether or not you hire them. You compare the result with what they said in the interview: calls made, calls connected, a note against each, and how they sounded late in the day. It replaces guessing with a sample of the actual work.

Is it fair to ask a candidate for a trial day?

Yes, if three conditions hold: it is paid, it is one day and not a week, and the candidate is told beforehand what they will do and how they will be judged. An unpaid trial on live customer calls is free labour, and good candidates will rightly decline it. Tell every trial candidate the outcome within a day or two, including the ones you do not hire.

Should I hire telecallers through a consultancy or directly?

Hire directly when you need one or two callers and can spare a few hours for phone screens; you will learn what good sounds like for your own customers. A recruitment consultancy or staffing agency suits an urgent need for many seats, at the cost of a fee and less control over screening. Either way, keep the phone screen and the trial day in your own hands.

Can I hire a telecaller who works from home?

Yes, since the work needs a phone, a list and a steady signal. Screening matters more, because nobody sits beside a remote caller: check the network and background noise during the phone screen itself, and run the trial day from their home. Agree in writing how calls and follow-ups will be logged each day, so the review rests on a record and not on trust alone.

What are the warning signs when hiring a telecaller?

Four are worth acting on. The candidate cannot state any numbers from a previous calling job. They pitch during the role-play without asking a single question. Their voice drops after the first refusal and does not recover. Or the notes from the trial day are missing or unreadable. Any one of these can be coached; two or more together usually mean the seat will be vacant again soon.

How do I judge a new telecaller in the first week?

Against the measure you set before hiring, read from the call record daily. In week one look less at results and more at habits: is every connected call written up, are promised callbacks made on the day, and is the afternoon pace close to the morning one. Give feedback every evening while it is easy to change course. A caller with the habits in place by Friday usually reaches the numbers in the weeks that follow.

One line about the software

Telecalling Software is an app a new caller can be put on from the trial day: it dials the list from the caller's own Android phone and SIM and counts calls made, calls connected and talk time for the day, so a trial is compared on a call log and not on a self-report. That is the whole mention. The seven steps work with a notebook and a spreadsheet too.
