SIM-based auto dialer · the mechanics, the limits and the law
Everyone selling one of these has a download button. Almost nobody answers the first question people ask about them.
SIM-based auto dialer by Telecalling Software: dials your list, legal to use.
A SIM-based auto dialer works a list from the phone's own SIM, and it is legal to use. No virtual number, nothing over the internet, and your customer sees the caller's own mobile number. This page explains what actually happens on each call, names the four things a SIM physically cannot do, and sets out what Indian rules require of you, which is about who you call rather than about the dialer.

What is a SIM-based auto dialer?
A SIM-based auto dialer, such as the one in Telecalling Software, is an app that works through a list of numbers on an ordinary Android phone, placing each call over the SIM already in it. Nothing is carried over the internet and no virtual number is involved, so the person you ring sees the caller's own mobile number and the call costs whatever their mobile plan costs. It dials one number at a time, waits for that call to end, takes the outcome and moves to the next. In Telecalling Software the auto dialer is part of the free forever plan, so the dialing itself costs nothing regardless of how many callers use it.
SIM-based auto dialer: step by step
What the app actually does on each call.
You give it a list
A spreadsheet, a filtered set of leads, or the numbers left over from yesterday. The list lives in the app, so nobody is copying digits from one screen to another.
It places the call on the SIM
The app hands the number to the phone's own dialer and the call goes out on the mobile network, exactly as if the caller had tapped it themselves. Your customer sees the caller's number.
You talk; it waits
Nothing happens during the call. The app is not on the line, there is no delay when the person answers, and there is nothing for them to notice.
You log the outcome in two taps
The moment the call ends a sheet asks what happened, takes a note typed or spoken, and asks when to call again. Ten seconds, and the record is written before the next call rather than from memory at six.
It moves to the next number
Straight on, without going back to the phone book. This is the part that saves the time: over a hundred calls, the gap between numbers is most of the day.
SIM-based auto dialer legality in India
The dialer is not the part that is regulated.
Automating which number comes next is not what the law is concerned with. Indian telecom rules are about who you call, whether they agreed to hear from you, and how promotional calling is registered. The same call is fine or not fine depending on the person at the other end, not on whether a human or an app picked the number.
- Ordinarily fine: calling people who enquired, bought from you, asked for a quote or are due for a renewal. This is the overwhelming majority of what a small sales team does all day.
- Where businesses get caught: a bought database, promotional calls to numbers on the Do Not Disturb registry, or bulk promotional calling that should have gone through a registered telemarketer on a registered header.
- What to do either way: keep your own do-not-call list, take a number off the calling list the moment somebody asks, and record that request against the number so nobody re-adds it in the next import.
This is a plain-language summary rather than legal advice, and the rules change. The DND page goes through the registry in more detail; for anything with money riding on it, ask a lawyer.
SIM-based auto dialer limits
Four things no SIM-based dialer can do, ours included.
One call at a time
A SIM is a single line. It cannot dial four numbers at once and connect whichever answers first; that is predictive dialing and it needs carrier lines. Anything calling itself a SIM-based predictive dialer is describing something it cannot do.
No call recording
Android stopped third-party apps recording calls. No app on this shelf can record from a normal handset, whatever the listing says, so if recording is a requirement you need cloud telephony instead.
Operator limits apply
A consumer SIM will usually take a few hundred outgoing calls a day before the operator starts flagging it. That is well above what a caller can actually talk through, but it is a real ceiling and it belongs to your operator, not to the app.
Android only
iPhone does not allow an app to place calls this way. A manager can use a browser dashboard from anything, but a caller needs an Android handset with a SIM in it.
SIM-based auto dialer vs cloud dialer
| Question | SIM-based | Cloud dialer |
|---|---|---|
| Number the customer sees | The caller's own mobile number | A virtual or toll-free number owned by the vendor |
| Cost per minute | Whatever the caller's mobile plan costs | Billed per minute or from a bundle |
| Lines at once | One | As many as you buy |
| Call recording | Not possible | Standard |
| Works on a weak data signal | Yes, calls use the mobile network | No, the call is carried over the internet |
| Setup | Install an app, sign in, start | Buy numbers, configure routing, then start |
If the lead record rather than the dialing is what you are weighing up, the SIM-based calling CRM page takes that side of it, and the auto dialer app page covers the feature itself screen by screen.
SIM-based auto dialer FAQ
Is an automatic dialer illegal?
- In India an auto dialer is not illegal in itself. What is regulated is who you call and how. Under the TRAI telecom commercial communications rules you must respect the Do Not Disturb registry, unsolicited commercial calls to registered numbers attract penalties, and bulk promotional calling is meant to run through a registered telemarketer on a registered header. Calling your own enquiries, customers and renewals from your own SIM, one at a time, with consent to have contacted you, is ordinary business calling and is fine. Buying a database and dialing strangers is where businesses get into trouble, and the dialer being automatic is not what makes the difference.
What is a SIM-based call?
- A call carried by your mobile operator over the cellular network using the SIM card in the handset, which is what happens every time you tap a number in your phone. The opposite is a VoIP or cloud call, which travels over the internet and shows the recipient a number rented from a software vendor. SIM-based calling matters commercially because the number on the customer's screen is an ordinary mobile number, and in India those get answered far more often than unfamiliar landline or toll-free numbers.
Can I set my phone to automatically call someone?
- A phone on its own can redial a number, but it cannot work through a list, wait for you to finish, record what happened and go to the next one. That is what an auto dialer app adds. It is also worth being clear about what automatic means here: it automates picking the next number, not the conversation. A person still speaks on every call.
What is the best SIM-based auto dialer?
- For an Indian outbound team the useful test is not which app dials fastest but which one remembers the call afterwards. A dialer that walks a list and forgets it leaves you at the end of the day with nothing to act on. Telecalling Software dials from the caller's own SIM, takes the outcome and a note in two taps when the call ends, and charts calls, connects and talk time by day, and the dialing half of that costs nothing permanently. Judge any candidate by running one real list of a hundred numbers through it.
Do I need DND clearance to use a SIM-based dialer?
- You need to respect the DND registry, which is not the same as clearance. Numbers registered on it must not receive unsolicited promotional calls, and that obligation is yours regardless of which dialer you use. Calls to people who enquired, bought or are due for renewal are a different category. Keep your own do-not-call list as well and take numbers off the calling list the moment somebody asks.
Does a SIM-based auto dialer cost anything per call?
- Nothing to us. The call is carried by the caller's own mobile operator on the plan they already pay for, so the marginal cost of a call is whatever their plan charges, which for most Indian plans with unlimited voice is nothing. The software is ₹161 per user per month for the full product, and the dialer by itself is on the free plan.
How many numbers can it dial in a day?
- More than a person can talk through, which is the real limit. A caller working steadily manages roughly sixty to a hundred conversations in a day depending on the list. The app will keep up with that easily; the ceiling you will meet first is your operator flagging a consumer SIM after several hundred outgoing calls.
Will the customer know an app dialed the number?
- No. The call is an ordinary cellular call from the caller's own number, placed the same way as a manual one. There is no connection delay, no announcement and nothing different on the recipient's screen. This is a genuine difference from cloud dialers, where the short pause before a human speaks is often recognisable.
Can two callers share one SIM-based dialer account?
- Every caller works from the handset and SIM already in their pocket, and the account is what joins them up. On the free plan they each dial their own list independently. On the paid plan a manager assigns leads between them and sees both callers' numbers in one dashboard, which is the point at which sharing actually means something.
What happens to calls made outside the app?
- They are still picked up. If a caller dials from the normal phone screen, or a customer rings back, the call still appears against that number with the same outcome sheet at the end. This matters more than it sounds, because callbacks are where a good share of the conversions come from and they never arrive through the dialer.
Is a SIM-based auto dialer suitable for a call centre?
- For an outbound team inside a business, yes. For a call centre proper, usually not, because those need inbound queues, routing and recording for quality scoring, and a SIM gives none of the three. The dividing line is roughly whether your callers are ringing out to your own leads or answering a switchboard.
Should a caller use a personal SIM or a second work SIM?
- A second work SIM in the other slot, if you can. The dialer will use either, but keeping the business number separate means the number customers see belongs to the company rather than to whoever happens to be sitting there, so it stays when the caller does not. On a personal SIM the relationship walks out with the person.
What if I want to stop mid-list?
- Pause and the position is kept, so the next session starts on the number you stopped at rather than back at the top. That is a calling session, and the count and the position are part of the free plan along with the dialer itself: 6 things that cost nothing permanently.
How do I download a SIM-based auto dialer for Android?
- Message us on WhatsApp for the install link while the store listing is in closed testing, and it arrives the same day. It needs Android 8 or newer. Be careful with SIM dialers offered as package files on download portals: those get no updates and nobody has checked what is inside them.
Does a SIM-based auto dialer need any setup before the first call?
- Almost none, which is the practical difference from cloud dialing. Install the app, sign in, bring a list, start. There are no numbers to buy, no routing to configure and no IVR tree to build, so teams place real calls the same afternoon rather than the following week.
